The Triberg Waterfall

Steady light noise is simply part of Triberg. After all, it’s here, where Germany’s highest waterfalls come down the mountains on the outskirts of Triberg. Foaming and roaring the water plunges 163 meters down the river called “Gutach”. On the paths along the seven stages, you will find a magnificent spectacle of nature.

Hornberger Castle Hill

Around 1100 the first castle of the lords of Hornberg was built on the lower castle rock near Althornberg. 100 years later, after the division of power, the lords of Hornberg moved their seat to the local castle hill and founded the small town of Hornberg at the foot of the new castle, which was walled until the middle of the 19th century.

As a result, the Schlossberg experienced a very eventful history. Between 1641 and 1689 the castle was burned down by the Swedes and several times by the French. In 1801 the entire castle complex became the property of Baden, and in 1810 the whole of Hornberg and its districts became Baden. Today the 30 m high castle tower, the powder tower, the viewing circle and the „New Castle“ (today Hotel Schloss Hornberg), built at the end of the 19th century, are still preserved from the former castle complex and offer a wonderful view of the Gutach valley.

The Eble Uhren-Park

This is the world’s largest cuckoo clock, a distinction its held since 1997. It has become the main draw of Germany’s Eble Uhren-Park.

Local clockmakers Ewald and Ralf Eble showcased their mastery of the craft in the creation of this massive cuckoo clock. They followed century-old blueprints to build a clock using traditional Black Forest craftsmanship—but 60 times the size. The dimensions are impressive: The clockwork is 15 feet tall and weights 6 tons. The cuckoo itself weighs 330 pounds, and the swinging pendulum is 26 feet long. The cuckoo clock in Triberg-Schonach chimes twice an hour. Each time, the call comes from pipes 13 feet long.
